Fairport, N.Y. — The Jr. Americans are proud to announce they have tendered Rochester, N.Y. native Ethan Phillips!
Phillips, born in 2007, is a netminder with major upside. He’ll have four seasons of NAHL eligibility.
Phillips’ hockey journey includes three seasons with Bishop Kearney Selects, playing in 138 games. This past season, was the best of his career with an impressive 1.65 goals against average through 33 games. Phillips becomes the second BK Selects player of his year’s tender class joining Owen King.
He follows a lineage of notable BK Selects alumni who have transitioned to the Jr. Americans, including Clay O’Donnell, Dexter Kichline, Mitch Kneidel, Jaden Dyke, Cole O’Donnell, Florian Wade, and Michael Sandruck. The Selects have had plenty of recent success, in both winning and developing young players. In 2022 they won the 14U, 15O and 18U New York State Championships. In that same year, they won the 16U National Championship.
Phillips also played his youth hockey through the Jr. Amerks Youth Organization. He played for the Jr. Americans U18 Prospects Team at the 2024 NAHL Prospects Challenge in Blaine, MN last month. According to his Elite Prospects profile, he stands at 6’1” and 185lbs.
As of June 5th, it looks as if goaltenders Florian Wade and Danick Leroux will be returning to the Jr. Americans next season. If not this year, Phillips could be playing more significant minutes for future years. His proximity to the rink will also make him a valuable option in case of any injury.
A tender is a contract, of sorts. A player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders – plus or minus any trades. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft.
Welcome to Rowdy Town, U.S.A. Ethan!
